Queen Salawa Abeni’s Daughter “Candy” Begins Audition For Her Reality Show “Opolo Orin”

Auditions for the first indigenous music reality show tagged “Opolo Orin” would kick off in the south west states on the 20th of January 2013, beginning with Lagos at LTV, as well as Abeokuta and Ibadan. Recall that the reality show “Opolo Orin” is a strictly Yoruba talent hunt and singing competition that will showcase the very best talents in Waka, Juju, Fuji, Apala and Afro beat. The brain behind this concept is Queen Salawa Abeni’s first daughter Aminat Okikiola Ilori popularly called “Candy”. Candy has been in and around the entertainment industry for several years, she also doubles as the boss of Candiva Signature, an entertainment company and record label that signed on rapper Big Sheff. According to Candy, “Opolo Orin is going to be the first indigenous talent show, we’ve seen the influx of several talent shows, but somehow our indigenous music has been neglected despite the fact that we have several cultures and languages, you don’t necessarily have to speak English to be talented, so Opolo Orin is here to fill that void, and am doing this because I feel there’s hypocrisy in other talent shows”. Explain what inspired the concept of the show, she said “I saw an audition from project fame, the Ibadan own to be precise, and an old man didn’t make the cut because he sang in Yoruba language, and honestly, he was talented, and that gave me this idea and I started working on it”. Candy holds a Bsc in Business Management from University of Ilorin, as well as Msc in Business Management from England. The show would have veterans in the industry such as Admiral Dele Abiodun, Salome Eketunde and Laolu Akins as judges, while celebrity guest judges would include 9ice, Olamide, Sir Shina Peters, King Sunny Ade and several others. The winner of the show would smile home with a million naira, a promotional and marketing deal as well as a musical tour with a veteran musician, while the first runner up gets half a million naira and the second runner up would get two hundred and fifty naira
