I’ve Lost My Successor •Falae Mourns Son

FORMER Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, has said the death of his son, Deji, had created a big vacuum in his life as he has lost a political successor.
Addressing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, who paid a condolence visit to his residence, the Afenifere chieftain said he had always looked at Deji as one who would take over from him.
Deji, who was the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Ondo State, was among the people who died in the ill-fated aircraft belonging to Associated Airline on Thursday while bearing the corpse of the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Agagu from Lagos to Akure.

Falae said he had reached the peak of his political career and considered Deji to be worthy of succeeding him after quitting politics.
The former Minister of Finance said, “I was looking forward to seeing Deji take over from me, because I have reached the peak of my being in politics. I will miss him so much,”.
He however noted that he would submit to the Almighty God as he could not question God over the death of his son.
The Speaker however said Deji was his friend and had sent useful text messages to him on how to move the country forward, four days before the unfortunate incident.
He prayed that God would grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Also addressing some traditional rulers that paid him condolence visit, Falae said his son had earned his place in the present Government of Ondo State.
According to him, in spite of his political stature, he never influenced Deji’s appointment as Commissioner, saying that Deji was a friend of the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and has appointment had nothing to do with his person.
The traditional rulers, led by Olukare of Ikare-Akoko, Oba Akadari Momoh, however consoled the elder statesman, urging him to have faith in God.
