Facebook began moving its more than 300-person New York team into a new, larger office space on Monday.
Located in the Greenwich Village area in Manhattan at 770 Broadway, the office will house over 100 engineers working on Newsfeed, AI, mobile and other areas at Facebook. The space was designed by Frank Gehry, the same star architect who designed the expansion of Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif.
The move comes nearly nine months after Facebook signed a 10-year lease on the space. The new office takes up two floors in the building and is around 100,000 square feet, about twice the size of Facebook's previous New York office on Madison Ave.
The office building also carries some symbolism for Facebook.

"We’re beginning the move into our new home at 770 Broadway at Astor Place, a building that holds a special place in the history of advertising and media, from its origin as John Wanamaker’s department store to now being not just Facebook’s new home, but also the headquarters for Aol, Adweek, Backstage and Billboard," Carolyn Everson, vice president of global marketing solutions, wrote in a post on her Facebook page.
The large office is certainly a big step forward for a company considering that less than a decade ago Facebook's New York "office" was really just the apartment of its first ad sales employee.
