New Deji Of Akure Gets Staff Of Office - Promises Better Relationship With Government [Photos]




The Ondo State government on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 presented the staff of office to a new monarch for its capital city, the Deji of Akure, Oba Patrick Kole Aladetoyinbo. Governor Olusegun Mimiko, who was represented by his deputy, Lasisi Oluboyo, sent a warm congratulatory message to the people of Akure on the emergence of the new traditional ruler. 
The governor while presenting the staff of office, advised the people of Akure to co-operate with the new Deji, noting that the selection process of the monarch was crisis-free and fair. He further described the new king as a peacemaker, advising him to use his reign to further foster peace in the kingdom. 


Oba Patrick in his inaugural speech appreciated all the kingmakers for following due process of selection. He equally extended the hand of peace to contestants of the traditional office. The new Deji, however, pleaded with the government to further improve on its development programmes in Akure, promising to to remain focused and loyal to the people of Akure kingdom.   The new Deji of Akure, Oba Patrick Kole Aladetoyinbo, receiving the staff of office in the state capital on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.

The newly installed Deji of Akure kingdom, Patrick Kole Aladetoyinbo,  promised to encourage participatory traditional governance within the kingdom and her various component towns. Aladetoyinbo, who pledged to be henceforth addressed as Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, stated this on Tuesday,  during the presentation of instrument of Office and staff of authority to him by the State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko. 

The new monarch said in the last 120 years, it had never been so stressful for kingmakers that 13 aspirants were contesting for the vacant stool of the Deji of Akure kingdom as the selection that threw him up as the monarch. He declared his determination to promote peace, respect for constituted authority and the traditional institution of the emerging millennium city, warning that he would not condone thuggery, disrespect for law and order or any act of violence in the city. Oba Aladetoyinbo added that the Deji traditional institution would be used as an important agent of meaningful development. The monarch appreciated 
Governor Mimiko for his spirit of justice, equity and fairness in the process of selecting a new Deji. Speaking at the occasion, Governor Mimiko said the presentation of staff of office to the new Deji marked the beginning of a new era in the kingdom. Mimiko, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, stated that his administration could not pretend not to note the aspiration of the people and their yearning for a new traditional ruler after the demise of Oba Adebiyi Adesida, which was witnessed with progress and development. The governor said the process that lead to Oba Adetoyinbo’s emergence was fair, transparent and conform with the guideline of the Deji declaration of 1999 constitution, urging the people to support the new monarch in the discharge of his duty. Also the caretaker chairman of Akure South, Mr. Adebayo Alarapon, said with the emergence the new monarch, the Erekesan market will be re-open and the economic activities would bounce back. He urged the youths to restrain from being used by disgruntled elements to foment trouble.
