Nigerian Olufunmilola Obe Becomes The First African To Attain The Rank Of Inspector In The New York Police Department

In 2014, while still a Deputy Inspector, Olufunmilola Obe was named the new commander of the 28th Precint of the New York Police Department. Recently, the Nigerian-born Obe was promoted to the rank of an Inspector, becoming the first African to rise to that position in the history of the New York Police Department, NYPD.

Ms. Obe joined the New York City Police Department in 1994. She became a Sergeant in 2000, a Lieutenant in 2005, a Captain in 2008, and a Deputy Inspector in 2012.
