He's taken his focus off the ball, why would he do that? Carragher, Souness and Henry debate Mertesacker red card in Arsenal loss

Whether Per Mertesacker actually made contact with Diego Costa caused some debate in the Sky Sports studio between Sportsmail's Jamie Carragher, Graeme Souness and Thierry Henry. But it was Mertesacker's 'bizarre' look across towards the linesman a split-second before he attempted to tackle the striker, which irked Carragher.

The Arsenal defender brought down Costa as the last man, minutes before the striker fired Chelsea ahead at the Emirates.

But while Souness defended the German, Carragher insisted referee Mark Clattenburg was right to show him a red card.
‘I think it’s harsh, [there was] minimal contact. I think it’s harsh, Costa makes a meal of it you can bet there was a scream,' Souness said on Sky Sports 1.
‘He (Willian) delays, he delays, he delays [then] plays a wonderfully weighted ball but there’s minimal contact.
