SA Woman Lands in Police Net After Burning Her 11-year-old Daughter Over a Missing R20

An 11-year-old girl in Botshabelo, South Africa, was the victim of a brutal attack from her mother who allegedly burned her for stealing the sum of R20.
Whilst narrating the incident to Daily Sun, the aunt to the burned girl pictured above said the mother had asked the victim to fetch boiling water and pour it into a wash basin after which the mother flung it at her daughter’s back. Not moved by the throbbing pain and agony the girl had to be going through, she waited for all of 2 days before taking her daughter to the hospital to see a doctor. A visiting relative reported the matter to the police and the woman was arrested.

“The poor girl sustained burn wounds on her back and left arm. I know my sister is very abusive towards her children. What makes me very angry is that although the girl was badly injured on Thursday, she waited two days to go to hospital. All I want is for my sister to get help before she does something drastic.”
Peter Kareli, the Police spokesman for the area confirmed the arrest noting that investigation was ongoing and an assault case had been opened against the mother.
“The woman was arrested on Monday, June 13, and will appear in court again soon”he said.
